"What Is Rejection?"

Ebony Brinson uncovers the spiritual weight of rejection through a biblical lens. This powerful reflection examines how many people unknowingly operate under the spirit of rejection, resulting in coldness, bitterness, and a profound hunger for validation. But even Jesus was rejected, betrayed, and crucified (Isaiah 53:3, Luke 22:48, John 19:16-18). Yet in Him, rejection becomes redirection. Ebony reminds readers that what the enemy meant for evil, God uses for good (Genesis 50:20). This post will encourage you to let Christ mend the broken places and walk confidently in your God-ordained identity.

Rejection is the act of being dismissed, refused, or cast aside, emotionally, spiritually, or relationally. But deeper than a moment or experience, rejection can take root and become a spirit, a stronghold that distorts our identity, hardens our hearts, and leaves us bitter, cold, and wandering in search of love and purpose. Many walk through life carrying this burden, unaware that only the One who created us holds the remedy.

Beloved, know this: Jesus Himself was no stranger to rejection. “He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief…” (Isaiah 53:3, ESV). He was betrayed by one closest to Him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” (Luke 22:48, NKJV), and ultimately crucified, unjustly condemned by the very ones He came to save.

When we experience rejection, our natural response may be to withdraw, isolate, or desperately seek validation from others. But God wants you to know: sometimes rejection is divine redirection. What feels like abandonment is often God's protection and preparation. “But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good…” (Genesis 50:20, NKJV). He has a plan, even in your pain.

Let Jesus mend your heart. He sees you. He loves you. And He promises: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5, NKJV). You are not forgotten. His promises are eternal, cling to them and keep them hidden in your heart.

Those who left you were never meant to stay. Their absence is not your failure, it’s a part of God’s divine orchestration. Trust the One who holds your future in His hands.

God bless you. Shalom.
